~ Says Marcel Gumbs a failure for St. Maarten ~
PHILIPSBURG: - Independent Member of Parliament Christophe Emmanuel on Tuesday said that considering the lack of progress on Trust Fund projects for St. Maarten, the entire construct of the Trust Fund Steering Committee should be re-evaluated. He also questioned if the three members of this committee will be replaced considering the slow progress on St. Maarten, going on four years after hurricane Irma.
MP Emmanuel pointed out that even State Secretary Raymond Knops has admitted that the World Bank was not the ideal entity to channel reconstruction funds through and criticized the pace of work being executed. Moreover, the MP continued, outside of not working efficiently, nobody seems to know how this committee actually works, how they evaluate what has to be done, how they measure progress, nothing. PHILIPSBURG: - During a routine control on March 5th, 2021, Customs Officers at the Princess Juliana International airport once again intercepted 3 heavy sports bags, with packages which raised suspicions by the officers. After intensive research, it resulted that the packages contained cocaine which was destined for Europe.
All the bags with contraband were confiscated. This case was turned over to the Alpha team, which is a joint team consisting of Customs, Police, KMAR, and Coastguard. This joint team is currently busy with a full investigation. This is the reason why no further information can be given. Arrests can be made soon.

PHILIPSBURG: - The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset welcomed eight professionals as its newest members on January 11th, 2021. Joining Rotary Sunset are Suenah Laville Martis, Lucrecia Lake, Fabiana Richardson, Sydonna Watts, Sabrina Vrutaal, Shanyca Colastica, Tivona Trotman, and Gabriel Flanders Hyman Jr who were sworn in by President of Rotary Sunset Elisia Lake during the club’s general meeting.
