ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A new federal law will allow travelers to cruise Alaska this summer.
Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises have all announced week-long sailings beginning in July. These voyages have already gone on sale.
“Although the Centers for Disease Control is supporting a mid-July restart in U.S. sailings, it was unclear whether Alaska would benefit, due to Canada being closed to travelers and regulations that require foreign-owned ships to stop in another country when sailing between U.S. ports,” AAA said.

The Alaska Tourism Restoration Act will temporarily allow large cruise ships to bypass required stops in Canadian ports while travelling between Washington state and Alaska.
Carnival Corporation brands – Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line – and Norwegian Cruise Line last week announced plans for a resumption of sailing to the state.
Now Celebrity Cruises – part of Royal Caribbean Group – has revealed plans for Celebrity Summit to operate nine sailings from July 23 to mid-September.
They will mark Celebrity Summit’s first Alaska sailings. The ship will then reposition to the Caribbean, via a 16-night Panama Canal sailing, and begin a series of four- and five-night itineraries.
