BSTU concerned about students not observing COVID-19 rules

May 8, 2021 While a COVID-19 case is being investigated at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union (BSTU) is concerned about a lack of conformity to safety protocols by some students who are not wearing masks and practising physical distancing. In addition, a statement issued by BSTU on Friday evening outlined that the conflicting situation of requiring that classrooms be properly ventilated to mitigate against the spread of infection, especially with only three feet distancing, is greatly compromised in the on-going circumstances, where at many schools windows have to be closed to prevent the entrance into classrooms of residual ash.

May 7, 2021 There is no outbreak of COVID-19 at the Princess Margaret Secondary School and no reason to panic. So says Minister of Health and Wellnes Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic who this evening sought to quell fears that the respiratory illness was rampant at the St Philip institution as well as at the St George Primary School. During a nationally-televised press conference Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George confirmed that health authorities were investigating exposures at the two schools. He said while one student at Princess Margaret had tested positive, no positive cases had yet been identified at St George Primary.
