Initial information gathered by police on scene revealed an adult male who was the subject of the initial complaint had a history of violence involving firearms. As the initial information reported to police indicated firearms were involved, additional RCMP resources were called to assist with the investigation: The Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team, the Prince Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Team, RCMP Police Dog Services, officers from the Waskesiu RCMP Detachment, the Prince Albert Traffic Services Unit and members of the provincial Protect and Response Team (PRT). A search warrant was executed to search for the alleged firearm and ammunition inside the residence. A thorough search of the residence revealed there was no evidence to support the initial reports of uttering threats and firearms inside the residence.
The Prince Albert RCMP have announced after an investigation on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation there was no evidence to support reports of gun shot sounds in the area or uttering threats at a rural home on Sunday.
According to a media release, RCMP received those reports within minutes of each other causing them to take action. They arrived at the residence to set up containment to secure the perimeter to keep the public safe.
Police say the initial information they obtained was the adult man who the complaint was directed at had a history of firearm violence. Because of this, the police called in reinforcements to help with the investigation including the Prince Albert RCMP Crime Reduction Team, Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Services, Waskesiu RCMP, Prince Albert Traffic Services Unit and the provincial Protect and Response Team.
