A drunken altercation between two brothers has resulted in a 13 month jail sentence.
Ryan Kyle Daniels, 42, was sentenced Thursday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court after pleading guilty to a charge of criminal negligence causing death.
In July 2019, 48-year-old Darwin Naytowhow was found deceased at a residence on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.
According to the facts of the case, Daniels and Naytowhow had been out partying all night before going to another brother’s house and getting into a fight. During the altercation, Naytowhow, who was heavily intoxicated, fell and hit his head. He died from his injuries.
Crown Prosecutor Adreanne Dubbe explained that while Daniels may not have meant to cause his brother’s death, he should have known that by engaging with a person who was severely intoxicated, severe injuries may result.
