Passing lanes north of Prince Albert officially opened Thursday

The two new sets of passing lanes between Prince Albert and Christopher Lake were officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning. Government officials say the project was completed ahead of schedule, and will improve safety on Hwy 2. Officials said they will also improve traffic flow for commuters to and from communities and parks in the Prince Albert area and the province’s north.

A project that began because of a loss became a welcome reality when supporters and family members officially broke ground on the new Rose Garden Hospice Friday morning. The project began 14 years ago after Rose Daschuk passed away after a short bout with cancer. It finally entered the construction phase with a on-site ground breaking on Friday. Rose’s husband Don Daschuk and daughter Marina Mitchell were pleased to see the shovels in the ground.

MADD Prince Albert partnered with SGI, Prince Albert Police, and the City of Prince Albert to remind residents about the importance of not driving impaired. They positioned an upside-down vehicle on the side of Highway Two, north of Prince Albert as a deterrent and a reminder to the many drivers. “This is a very busy highway, with lots of people heading up to lake country,” Karen Anthony-Burns, director with MADD Prince Albert said. “We want to reinforce the message to please plan ahead, have a safe ride home, don’t drive impaired, don’t cause any more tragic consequences for anyone else or for yourself.”
