After four straight days of new daily cases of more than 2,000 cases, Premier Doug Ford said Friday he is holding emergency meetings on the weekend ahead of extended COVID-19 lockdowns in the GTA and southern portions of Ontario.
Shortly before speaking to 113 Ontario hospital executives in an emergency meeting early Friday, Ford told reporters that with Toronto and Peel Grey-Lockdowns about to expire next week, he would likely extend the lockdowns into the new year.

Health officials are asking residents of highly infected Grey-Lockdown and Red-Control zones in the Greater Toronto Area not to travel to less-infected zones to do their Christmas shopping at retail outlets and malls open in safer areas.
But judging by the number of cars seen in Belleville with Toronto-area car dealership plates and stickers indicating travel from Oakville to Scarborough, it would appear some Christmas shoppers may not be heeding provincial warnings.

OTTAWA As Ontario reports more than 2,000 cases of novel coronavirus for the second consecutive day, there are 41 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa. Speaking on Newstalk 580 CFRA s Ottawa Now with Kristy Cameron on Wednesday, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches said the COVID-19 situation in Ottawa is stable. I m feeling positive that people are maintaining that practices that are keeping COVID down, said Dr. Etches. We re not declining, not heading into yellow but certainly people are protecting each other against higher levels.
