Hastings and Prince Edward Counties have reported 835 COVID-19 cases locally, since the start of the pandemic – There are 86 active cases in the region, including 12 people in-hospital, four in intensive care and two on ventilators.
Close to 125,000 swab tests have been completed in the Quinte region by the health unit, paramedics and at COVID-19 assessment centres in Quinte West, Belleville, Prince Edward County and North Hastings.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health reports that 55,720 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered locally so far (45,188 first doses and 3,582 individuals are fully-vaccinated.)
Public health is asking parents to continue to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms daily (an online COVID-19 screening tool is available on the provincial government’s website.)

Hastings-Prince Edward is about to receive less COVID-19 vaccine as Ontario diverts more doses to hotspots.
Three-quarters of Ontario’s allocation will be provided to regions on a per-capita basis, said local medical officer of health Dr. Piotr Oglaza. The remainder will supply regions with the most COVID-19 activity.

It means about 25 per cent less vaccine for Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, he said.
Oglaza told The Intelligencer earlier this week a reduction in Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was expected this month, but it was possible a delayed shipment of Moderna vaccine could offset that shortfall.

No home vaccinations for COVID-19 are planned for Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, with authorities citing difficult logistics and limited resources.
Mobile vaccination teams are at work in the region and community paramedics continue to test some people in their homes for the virus. That has prompted public questions about the possibility of home vaccinations, such as for people who may have difficulty getting to mass-vaccination centres. There are currently centres in Belleville, Bancroft, Madoc Township, Trenton and Picton.
