Saudi parents welcome possible schools reopening but concerns remain
Education minister unveils plans to vaccinate all school staff, raising hopes that in-person learning can resume in August

JEDDAH: After a year of coping with the challenges created by distance learning, many parents in Saudi Arabia breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday as hopes grew that their children will soon be able to return to full-time in-person classes.
Education Minister Hamad Al-Sheikh announced a schedule for all school staff, at all levels, to receive COVID-19 vaccinations before the start of the next school semester in August. This is in keeping with announcements by other Saudi ministries and organizations that have requested their staff to get vaccinated in preparation for a return to normal daily life.
Faisal Al-Bedah was recently appointed secretary-general of the Saudi Export Development Authority, also known as Saudi Exports.
Al-Bedah expressed his gratitude for the appointment and pledged to serve the Kingdom and help it achieve its goal of increasing non-oil exports to diversify the national economy.
He previously served as the secretary-general of the logistic services committee at the Transport Ministry.
Al-Bedah was the deputy governor for trade and facilitation at Saudi Customs from April 2017 to Feb. 2019. He then served as an adviser to the municipal and rural affairs minister between Feb. 2019 and Feb. 2020.
Al-Bedah obtained his bachelor’s degree in accounting from King Saud University in 2001. He obtained a master’s in finance from Prince Sultan University in 2009, and completed a management acceleration program at INSEAD in 2007.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is looking to bring up to 500 international companies to Riyadh following February’s announcement that the Kingdom will stop signing contracts with foreign companies from 2024 unless their regional headquarters are locally based.
In the wake of the announcement, 24 companies have already confirmed their intentions to establish headquarters in Riyadh.
One of the companies, US-based transportation giant Greenbrier, builds, leases, repairs, supplies and manages railcars in the Middle East, North and South America and Europe.

Dr. Dalal Ali Al-Rubaishi is a member of the board of directors of the National Institute for Professional Educational Development.
Minister of Education Hamad Al-Sheikh ordered the formation of the board to run the affairs of the institute.
In 1998, Al-Rubaishi received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from King Saud University, Riyadh. In 2011, she obtained an MBA from the Riyadh-based Prince Sultan University.
She later earned a Ph.D. in management with a focus on strategy, international business and entrepreneurship from Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. Her thesis was on “The Impact of Socioemotional Wealth on the Entrepreneurial Orientation and Succession Planning of Family SMEs in Saudi Arabia.”
