Manassas Park names new schools superintendent Saunders Dr. Melissa Saunders was appointed as the next superintendent of Manassas Park City Schools at tonight’s school board meeting. She’ll start her new job on July 1. She comes from neighboring Manassas, where, since 2016, she has worked as the executive director of student achievement for Manassas City Public Schools. Saunders has 28 years of experience working in public education. Joplin Road bridge to reopen after 6-month closure A newly rebuilt bridge that carries Joplin Road over Quantico Creek [VDOT] Good news for commuters: the Joplin Road bridge over Quantico Creek will reopen to through traffic on Friday, April 2, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The bridge was completely rebuilt after historic flooding on Aug. 13 required its closure. The flood was the highest peak flow that the United State Geological Survey (USGS) gauge adjacent to the bridge had seen in its 69-year existence- classifying it as between a 100 and 200-year event. A math teacher in Prince William County, Virginia, has died from coronavirus complications, according to Gar-Field High School Principal Matthew Mathison. In a letter to parents, Mathison said Richard Zuckernick from complications of COVID-19 on Tuesday, March 9. He had been battling the virus for the past few months, according to the letter. Mathison said Zuckernick had been working virtually all year, and despite the distance, had formed strong bonds with his students.  Zuckernick began teaching math at Prince William County Schools in 2011 at Lake Ridge Middle School before transferring to Gar-Field High School in August of 2017.

The former Global Learning and Culturally Responsive Instruction Supervisor for Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) Office of Professional Development was among the 43 applicants from 14 states, according to a release from the Prince William County Office of Communications Subscribe In her new role, Burgos will run the new office, which is going to be responsible for leading diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in Prince William County departments. The office will also diversify the workforce, create training, and address problems in the community. Developing a diversity, equity and inclusion plan and vision are also among Burgos duties, according to the Office of Communications.
