On Thursday, The PCH Board of Directors approved and executed an agreement that said West Virginia University Hospitals Inc. will assist PCH in “day-to-day” operations and explore opportunities for more integrated services. Other parts of the agreement that were approved included a collaborative clinical relationship, a business association agreement and the use of the WVU trademark. The City of Princeton consented to the agreement Friday during a city council meeting.

Nurse becomes first in Mercer to receive vaccine

Contributed photo PRINCETON — A registered nurse who usually works a hospital’s night shift got up early one morning this week to get an inoculation, and she soon became the first person in line to get the new COVID-19 vaccine. Sara Hill, RN, a charge nurse at Princeton Community Hospital’s emergency department, received her first of two shots of the new COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday, a day after it arrived from a distribution hub in Lewisburg.

Staff photo by Jessica Nuzzo BLUEFIELD — The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic has reached its “D-Day,” Mercer County Health Officer Dr. Steven Stefancic said Thursday. “I consider this to be our D-Day,” he said during a briefing at the Mercer County Health Department, referring to the all-out use of the vaccine that will eventually lead to an end to the pandemic. “The vaccine is the first defense. This is our tool.” But Stefancic also cautioned that mask wearing, physical distancing and hand washing will remain crucial as the process to get as many people as possible vaccinated will take several months.

PCH approves agreement: Management services for the hospital to be handled by WVU

PRINCETON — West Virginia University will be providing management services for Princeton Community Hospital. The PCH Board of Directors approved and executed an agreement Thursday evening during its meeting at the Chuck Mathena Center. The agreement said West Virginia University Hospital Inc. will assist PCH in “day-to-day” operations and explore opportunities for more integrated services. Other parts of the agreement that were approved included a collaborative clinical relationship, a business association agreement and the use of the WVU trademark. Board Chair Rusty Sarver said he wanted to note that all votes on the agreements were unanimous. More details of the agreement are expected to be released today.
