Cuban Born Morrell Missed Weight Friday For PBC Main Event
By
Cuban-born Super Middleweight
David Morrell was to have defended his interim WBA title in the main event in Los Angeles Saturday night. But now, his fight has been reduced to a non-title 10-round affair after he missed weight Christmas afternoon.
Morrell, who now lives and trains in Minneapolis is only 3 – 0 as a professional and he was slated to battle Mike Gavronski for 12 rounds in the main event of the Premier Boxing Champions on Fox card Saturday night.
However, at the Friday afternoon weigh-in Morrell was more than 2 lb. over the 168 lb. limit, and the fight was then reduced to a 10-rounder.

Gennady Golovkin etched his place into the record books last Saturday, as he stormed past mandatory challenger Kamil Szeremeta in seven rounds at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida.
Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) had been scrutinised heading into the clash after a below-par performance against Sergiy Derevyanchenko last October, but despite a year out the Kazahk great defended his IBF Middleweight crown emphatically, dropping Szeremeta four times, before the referee mercifully called off the contest just before the start of the eighth round.
David Morrell Jr will fight for a world title in just his fourth professional bout.
There’s Boxing Day action at the Shrine Exposition Centre in Los Angeles, as Premier Boxing Champions conclude their 2020 with a night of action.
Top of the bill is David Morrell Jr (3-0, KO2), and the Cuban amateur starlet, now based in Minneapolis, is already an interim WBA Super Middleweight champion in just three professional outings.
He defends that spurious title here against Lockport, Illinois based Mike ‘Imagine Me’ Gavronski (26-3-1, KO17).
As an amateur, Morrell was a 2016 World Youth champion, and also won the Cuban National Championships in 2017, compiling a 130-2 record in the unpaid code.

Luis Ortiz would be willing to face Dillian Whyte and has accepted his challenge, according to the Cuban’s manager Jay Jimenez.
Whyte lost his mandatory position to WBC Heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury following a fifth round knockout defeat to Alexander Povetkin in August.
The Brit activated the immediate rematch clause, however the second fight scheduled for November 21 was postponed after the Russian tested positive for COVID-19.
A new date earmarked for January 30 has also been quashed with Povetkin still recovering and Whyte named Ortiz as a possible replacement last week for the 41-year-old in February.
