MONTREAL Restaurants and bars staged a symbolic re-opening Saturday, seeking to remind patrons and politicians alike of the dining experience after 14 months dominated by COVID-19 shutdowns. The faux re-opening no food was served on site came after Quebec bar owners called on the government last month to allow them to unlock their doors for patrons who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The goal is to make the government aware that eventually we will die if we continue to close, Pierre Leveque, owner of Chez Leveque in Outremont, said of the staged reopening. Founded in 1972, the Parisian-style brasserie employed up to 50 people before first shutting its doors on March 17, 2020.

Manitoba will shutter schools in two hard-hit regions and move students to online learning, officials announced Sunday, as several other provinces also tightened public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
While the overall number of new cases in Canada has been declining since mid-April, COVID-19 infection rates remain stubbornly high in parts of Canada.
Manitoba Education Minister Cliff Cullen and chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said kindergarten to Grade 12 classes in Winnipeg and Brandon would moving online from Wednesday until at least May 30.

MONTREAL (CityNews) – Quebec will be vaccinating the 12-17 age group with at least one dose by end of June, and a second dose by September for back to school, Health Minister Christian Dubé announced at an update on the province’s vaccination campaign on Thursday.
He says more details will be coming, but hopes to give as many shots as possible right in the schools, adding they need to finalize the plan in the coming days.
“We’re so pleased with this news because it’s good for the people that will be vaccinated, and good for the population in general,“ he told reporters in Quebec City. ”We’re back to school in September, and this is behind us.”
