EcoPulse Hybrid Aircraft Passes Preliminary Design Review

Airbus The EcoPulse distributed propulsion hybrid aircraft demonstrator – which is being developed by Daher, Safran and Airbus with the support of France’s CORAC civil aviation research council – has successfully passed its Preliminary Design Review as a first key step toward validating the project’s feasibility and firming up the architecture for a first flight scheduled in 2022. Incorporating a distributed propulsion configuration from Daher, Safran and Airbus, this shared hybrid aircraft project has the goal of helping to transform the aviation sector. EcoPulse, which was unveiled at the 2019 Paris Air Show, is backed by the French government – with a reaffirmation of support coming in the framework of France’s recovery plan presented last June.

U S Army, Raytheon complete DeepStrike missile preliminary design review

Advertisement TUCSON, Ariz.–Raytheon and the U.S. Army completed a successful preliminary design review for the new DeepStrike® surface-to-surface missile, moving the weapon down the development path toward its first flight tests planned for later this year. The DeepStrike missile meets the Army’s Precision Strike Missile, or PrSM, requirement, and will replace the current missile that was designed in the 1970s and is approaching the end of its service life. During the Preliminary Design Review, the Army evaluated every aspect of the new missile’s design, from its advanced propulsion system and innovative lethality package to its guidance system.

OMFV: Army Tries To Make Life Easier For Industry

By   Sydney J. Freedberg Jr. on December 11, 2020 at 3:11 PM Army concept for how its future Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle will penetrate enemy lines. WASHINGTON: The Army is taking industry concerns to heart as it revises its next Request For Proposals for a new Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle, officials told company representatives at an industry day on Wednesday. In particular, they’ve slashed the (virtual) paperwork required for the next phase of the program, Phase II, by more than 80 percent, and they’ve replaced a grueling Preliminary Design Review with a less demanding Systems Functional Review, which requires less detailed data and allows less mature technology. That change effectively defers some design and development work from the upcoming Phase II contracts, which run from roughly June 2021 through Sept. 30, 2022, to the later Phase III contracts, to be awarded in February 2023.
