After a residential building collapse killed at least 11 people and injured 17 others, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra on Thursday called for measures to prevent such incidents.

“Monsoon in the ‘Maximum City’ is also a time of the maximum tears. With the chaotic, unplanned construction of the past, so many homes are at risk in the rains. Is it possible to carry out a multi-year survey of all structures at risk and reinforce them to prevent collapse?” Mahindra said in a tweet.
Eight children and three adults were killed and seven other people injured after two floors of a three-storey building collapsed on an adjoining single-storey house in Malwani area of Mumbai, officials said on Thursday.
The incident took place around 11.15 pm on Wednesday at the New Collector Compound on Abdul Hamid Road in the Malwani area, they said.

While earlier civic officials said a single-storey house had collapsed, they later said it was a three-storey building.
According to police, the building was constructed illegally and after the incident, its contractor was being questioned.
The second and third floors of the three-storey building collapsed on the adjoining single-storey house, said Santosh Dhonde, acting ward officer of the city s P-North ward.
The civic chief had directed that manholes in all 24 wards are checked and closely monitored to prevent any untoward incidents, especially in areas where there is heavy waterlogging.

Mumbai: At least eight children and three adults were killed and seven other people injured after a single-storey house collapsed on another structure in Malwani area of Mumbai, a civic official said on Thursday.
The incident took place around 11.15 pm on Wednesday at the New Collector Compound on Abdul Hamid Road in the Malwani area, he said.
The BMC has issued an advisory on leptospirosis (a bacterial disease) following heavy rainfall in the city. In an advisory, the BMC has warned that the cases of leptospirosis cases may spike.
