Mumbai weather update: Incessant rains continue to batter city; IMD predicts moderate to heavy rainfall for today

Incessant rains continued to batter Mumbai and adjoining areas on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its 24-hour forecast has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in city and suburbs with the possibility of very heavy rainfall at a few places.
The IMD on Tuesday said that the island city, eastern suburbs and western suburbs recorded 35.84 mm, 68.16 mm and 51.03 mm rain, respectively, in the last 24 hours.
The weather forecast suggests that high tide will begin at 8.19 pm and the waves will reach a height of 3.53 metres. Also, a low tide of 2.21 metres is likely to occur at 2.35 pm today.

For the fourth day in a row, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) continues to report heavy rains. Several low-lying areas reported waterlogging. In Thane s Kalwa, five members of a family, including three minors, were killed after a boulder rolled down and crashed into a slum colony due to incessant rains. The civic bodies have also asked people to boil water before drinking due to seepage caused by the heavy rains. More than 400 cars, auto-rickshaw, sports bikes also drowned in the BMC s underground parking lot in the Kandivali Thakur complex in Mumbai. Efforts are on to remove the water and vehicles. Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 20 (ANI): The Congress on Monday lashed out at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), whose reins are held by the Shiv Sena, for alleged corruption and mishandling of the monsoon situation in Mumbai.
This comes at a time when there are speculations of a rift in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance which consists of the Shiv Sena, the Congress, and the NCP.
Speaking to ANI, MumbaiCongress president Bhai Jagtap said, Evey year BMC makes promises for better management waterlogging due to rain but failed every time. We did a survey and informed the BMC officials before the monsoon about issues related to drainage. Hundreds of crores rupees were spent but not even the 25 per cent work has been done.

MUMBAI: A day after 35 people died in a wall collapse triggered by a landslide, Mumbai officials on Monday started evacuating people from vulnerable areas.
However, with 22,000 slums housing over 1.50 lakh people in landslide-prone zones, activists fear such makeshift evacuations are only delaying a major disaster waiting to happen.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra s coronavirus caseload climbed to 62,20,207 on Monday after 6,017 people tested positive for the infection, the lowest since February 22, while the death toll jumped to 1,27,097 as 66 patients succumbed to COVID-19, a health department official said.
The fresh COVID-19 deaths were the lowest in the last one week.
The official said as many as 13,051 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, pushing the number of recovered cases to 59,93,401.
