Women in India are slowly entering what was once called a man s domain of driving heavy vehicles. There have been several reports of women driving tractors, trucks, cabs, and buses. Taking inspiration, a young lady from YSR Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh was seen attending a driving school here. As per reports, the State Public Transport Department (RTC) officials have been conducting a training program for driving heavy vehicles since Saturday.  Y Malashree, a young woman from Kadapa, attended the training held at the driving school on the premises of Kadapa RTC Depot Manager. Malashree already has a light motor vehicle driving license and now she wanted to seek training in driving heavy vehicles as well.

UPDATED: December 31, 2020 11:08 IST Mumbai s iconic double-decker buses will soon go out of action as they are being auctioned. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is all set to auction old double-decker buses that have been in service for over 15 years. The officials said the auction is being conducted as they have reached their maximum service tenure. There are chances that new double-decker bus models will arrive by the end of 2021. Out of a total of 120 double-decker buses, 60 have been put up for the auction process. The remaining 60 will be operational till the end of the year. The BEST officials said the department will try to introduce new double-decker buses by the end of the year.

BEST asked to pay Rs 47 lakh to kin of pedestrian killed in road mishap The victim was a sales and marketing executive with a private firm and the incident took place in July 2015 A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has asked the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to pay Rs 47 lakhs to the kin of a 37-year-old man who was crushed between two BEST buses at Sakinaka in 2015 while crossing the road. Ahmad Shaikh, who worked as a sales and marketing executive with a private firm and was earning Rs 18,000 monthly, left behind his 32-year-old wife, three children. The incident took place on 15 July 2015 when he was crossing the Andheri- Ghatkopar Link Road at Sakinaka. He was hit by a BEST bus which was coming from Ghatkopar direction. He got crushed between the bus and another BEST bus due to the impact and died on the spot. A police complaint was lodged by his brother against the bus driver for rash and negligent driving.
