Rs 406 cr loan for cash-strapped BEST

In order to help the cash-strapped Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Trasport (BEST) undertaking clear its financial dues, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its annual 2021-22 municipal budget has proposed to provide a Rs 406 cr loan to the transport body at a nominal interest rate.
BEST owes gratuity payment to 3649 employees, for which the transport body will require additional funds for settling the dues. Alongside this, BMC has also announced a financial aid of Rs 50 lakh each for the kins of employees who died due to Covid, while they were on frontline service.

Mumbai Schools under the BMC would soon get a facelift and be rebranded as Mumba Public Schools. The civic body - Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, (BMC) has allocated Rs. 2945.78 crore to education in its annual budget released yesterday. A total outlay of Rs. 39,038.83 crore has been committed for this year.
With a focus on infrastructure and education, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal presented the budget to the civic standing committee. He also shared that an amount of Rs 2,945.78 crore would be allocated for education.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 3 (ANI): Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday unveiled Rs 39,038.83 crore budget of the civic body for the financial year 2021-22.
BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal presented the budget before to the civic standing committee on Wednesday.
The civic body s estimated budget stands at Rs 39,038.83 crore which exceeds the budget estimates of 2020-21 by 16.74 percent, Singh said.
The capital expenditure proposed at Rs 18,750.99 crore with a focus on infrastructure, health, and transport. Rs 750 crore has been allocated for Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) in the FY 2021-22.

MUMBAI: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal presented his first civic budget for the financial year (FY) 2021-22 on Wednesday. Despite the massive revenue shortfall, the budgetary estimate for the financial year 2021-22 has been pegged at Rs 39,038.83 crore, which is 16.74 per cent higher than that of the budget for FY 2020-21 (Rs 33,441.02 crore).
The civic budget, with a focus on infrastructure, health, education and transport, has introduced no new taxes while also deferring the revision in the property tax rate this year too.
The overall budget estimate of the revenue income for the financial year 2020-21 was Rs 28,448.30 crore, which was revised to Rs 22,572.13 crore, a reduction of Rs 5,876.17 crore. The budget estimate for the financial year 2021-22 for revenue income is proposed to be Rs 27,811.57 crore, Rs 636.73 crore less than that of 2020-21.
