Paul Chapman Craig-y-Nos Country Park Warden, Alan Bowring, Geopark Development Officer, Stephanie Evans, National Park Authority Transition Director and Suzanna Jones, National Park Authority Interpretation Officer and the Geopark Discovery Point bronze Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark has opened a new Geopark Discovery Point at Craig-y-nos Country Park in the Upper Swansea Valley. Stephanie Evans, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority’s Transition Director, officially opened the Discovery Point last week during what would have been Geofest: a two-week festival of the Geopark that had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. The Discovery Point has been created as a starting point for visitors to plan their exploration of the Geopark, which covers the Western half of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
A Powys mountain rescue service say it s a great honour - after scooping a prestigious award for volunteer service. Brecon Mountain Rescue Team(BMRT) has been named in the Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service 2021, announced today (June 2). The service, which is staffed entirely by volunteers and is funded by donations from the public, provides specialist search and rescue capabilities combined with emergency medical expertise to find and assist people who may be in danger, and covers an area spanning Brecon Beacons National Park to Welshpool. The team are also frequently called upon to assist other Mountain Rescue teams operating in South and West Wales.
