Steam train recreation plans on track in Montgomery

The Churchward County Trust, which is building a full-size recreation of a Great Western Railway (GWR) ‘County’ class 4-4-0 locomotive named ‘County of Montgomery’, has unveiled the loco’s new nameplates. Forty of the original ‘County’ locos were built between 1904 and 1912, with 11 named after Welsh counties on the GWR network. Montgomeryshire was not included in the GWR’s naming scheme at that time as it was a Cambrian Railways stronghold, but the county found itself at the heart of the GWR following the grouping of railway companies in 1923 when the Cambrian was absorbed into the GWR. It was for this reason that the Churchward County Trust selected the name County of Montgomery for its new loco.

I always buy my hair dye at the supermarket and I chose one which said ‘light ash’ because I’m getting old and I want to have ash hair now.” She emphasises the word “ash” and pouts, pure Patsy. “Well, it went the colour of the bottom of a ditch, so I put another bottle in, which made it even weirder. Thank goodness I’ve salvaged it” she finishes, shaking her trademark golden tresses.

Brecon Beacons beauty spots close as too many people visit

RURAL communities are at risk because too many people are driving to beauty spots near the Herefordshire-Powys border, Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has said. While England and Wales are both still in lockdowns in a bid to control the spread of coronavirus, the authority said people breaching Welsh Government rules is putting the park s fragile rural communities at risk . To tackle the problem, bosses have closed areas of the park which are popular with visitors. While Wales remains in lockdown, it has become apparent that people are continuing to park at popular National Park beauty spots, against Welsh Government regulations and putting themselves and the park’s fragile rural communities at risk, the authority said.

Comment: Snow helps lift our spirits at home in Herts

But now what? - Credit: Jane Howdle What a week of lockdown weather it’s been.   From Storm Christoph to snow and then sun, we had the lot in just five days.   We d hired a hot tub for my eldest’s birthday, in an attempt to make yet another dreary weekend at home feel special. In a matter of days we went from wrangling the hired gazebo into position against the wind, to taking a 39-degree dip after racing around in the snow in swimwear (just the kids for that bit).
