Eric Jacobsen named Music Director of Virginia Symphony Orchestra Eric Jacobsen Eric Jacobsen has been announced as the next Music Director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, effective on 1 st July. Jacobsen replaces JoAnn Falletta who serves also as Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Brevard Music Center and Artistic Adviser of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. Conductor and cellist Eric Jacobsen is Artistic Director and conductor of The Knights, an orchestra which he founded, and serves as the Music Director for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a violinist specializing in historical performance, I was increasingly surrounded by sacred music: hymns and Masses and cantatas and the great composers and priests who wrote them. This served to strengthen my faith in general and drew me steadily towards the Roman Catholic Church. Fiona Hughes was received into the Church in 2017. From her home in Virginia, she spoke to the Register March 26 about music, faith and the life of a professional musician during a pandemic.
