Recent advances in vaccinations and loosening of COVID-19 guidelines have spurred school boards across the state to renew discussions about policies requiring masks. Anti-mask protesters have flocked to public meetings Broward, Hillsborough and Manatee counties this week, but, so far, most school boards have held strong on their mask requirements at least through the end of the year.
The Brevard School Board previously planned to hold a meeting in early June to discuss COVID-19 precautions for the coming school year, but now will discuss some restrictions earlier at the Friday meeting, which will take place at 11 a.m. at the district s educational services building at 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson way.

Conservative political commentator Megyn Kelly will be stopping by Brevard County for a fireside chat hosted by conservative parent group Moms for Liberty.
The event will take place Friday, June 11 at 6 p.m. at the Radisson Resort in Cape Canaveral, according to a Moms for Liberty press release. A reception will be held at 4 p.m. Kelly will be sharing her story and speaking to being fearless in the face of opposition, the conservative pro-parent group stated in a press release. She recently made the difficult decision to pull her kids from their schools after finding some aspects of the curriculum problematic. She brings a powerful perspective to the conversation Moms for Liberty is driving about education in America.

Board kicks mask issue, like can, down the road
Once again, the Brevard County School Board is late to the party. While other school districts like Seminole, Pasco, Lake, Flagler, Escambia and Pinellas have already made a decision on whether there will be a mask mandate in their schools starting this fall, our school board continues to drag its feet on making a decision.
No matter where you stand on this issue, parents need time to enroll their children in alternative learning options if they see fit based on this decision. Yet despite all the data that s available, our school board members refuse to even hold a vote and continue to kick the can down the road.
