Armenian president rejects bill proposing tougher fines for defamation and libel in media

13:13 • 15.04.21 President Armen Sarkissian has not given a final approval to recently initiated draft legislative reforms proposing essentially increased fines for public reports containing defamation and libel. The bill, initiated as an amendment to the Civil Code of Armenia, was submitted to the presidential office on March 23. If signed into law, it would apply also to media outlets. Armenia s president to pay official visit to Georgia - aysor am

Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian together with his spouse Nune Sarkissian will pay an official visit to Georgia on April 15 at the invitation of Georgia’s president Salome Zurabishvili. In the sidelines of the visit separate meeting of Armenian and Georgian presidents will take place which will be followed with the extended one. The parties will discuss issues on agenda of bilateral relations and opportunities of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in different sectors. They will also refer to regional issues and developments. During the visit the Armenian president will also meet with the Georgian Catholicos Ilya II and speaker of Georgia’s parliament Archil Talakvadze.

Armenia s CC to examine president s application in 30-day period - aysor am

Armenia’s Constitutional Court has received on April 10 by Mulberry electronic system the application of Armenia’s president on determining the constitutionality of bill on making amendments in the Judicial Code. The CC reports that the application has been submitted on April 12 and 30-day time is defined for the preliminary examination. It has been reported earlier that President Armen Sarkissian applied to CC to determine the constitutionality of the amendments to the Judicial Code. According to the president, “the law contradicts the Constitution.”
