For Upper Valley hiking enthusiasts looking to break out on a COVID-19 era adventure, now might be the time to think big. Exploring a designated “national park” along the lines of the Grand Canyon, Glacier, Yellowstone or maybe Grand Teton could be just what you’re looking for, if you don’t mind multiple days of driving or a masked flight out West.

President Joe Biden has killed former President Donald Trump s plan to honor American heroes by creating a garden of statues, which was one of Trump s last executive actions as president.
Biden reversed a couple executive actions from Trump regarding his “National Garden of American Heroes.” One of the executive orders was signed on Jan. 18, just before Trump leave office.
The garden was Trump s response to the Black Lives Matter riots that destroyed American cities following the death of George Floyd and efforts to take down statues of prominent historical figures.
In the executive order, he referred to the garden as America’s answer to this reckless attempt to erase our heroes, values and entire way of life.

The second decade of the 21st century was bookended by two great crises the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the colossal impact these events have had on our daily lives, they resulted in
massive increases in government power and spending. During the Great Recession, Rahm Emmanuel, Chief of Staff for President Barack Obama, infamously said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.”REF This adage was applied in the Great Recession and it certainly has been applied in the COVID-19 pandemic.REF
Good morning, it’s Tuesday, May 11, 2021. On this date in 1858, Minnesota was admitted to the Union as the 32
nd state. With the possible exception of Massachusetts, the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” was the most anti-slavery state in America.
In those days Minnesota was also known as “Star of the North,” which it lived up to as soon as the Civil War began. The state s governor, Alexander Ramsey, was in Washington when Fort Sumter was bombarded in April 1861 and was among the first to answer President Lincoln’s call for 75,000 federal troops. Ramsey promised 10,000 from Minnesota alone, but the state actually produced 22,000 volunteers that first year.
