30-member delegation visits Jammu temple ANI 19 Jul 2021, 08:18 GMT+10 Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 19 (ANI): Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language visited Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for the promotion of the Hindi language, as per an official release issued on Sunday. Under section 3 of the Official Languages Act 1963, this committee was to be constituted after ten years of the promulgation of the Act. This committee was set up in 1976 under Section 4 of the Act. It comprises of 30 members of Parliament, 20 from Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha, as per the government. Last year, President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill, passed by the Parliament during the monsoon session.The Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Act, 2020 provides official language status to Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, English, and Urdu in the Union Territory.

Incarcerated Kashmiri leader Ashraf Sehrai dies in Indian custody Top Story By News Desk ISLAMABAD: A senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, has died in Indian custody in occupied Jammu. According to the Kashmir Media Service, Sehrai was booked under the draconian Public Safety Act and taken to Udhampur Jail in Jammu on July 12, 2020. His condition deteriorated in jail and on Tuesday he was shifted to a hospital in Jammu where he died on Wednesday. He was nearly 80 years old. Sehrai was suffering from multiple diseases and was not provided with any medical treatment during his incarceration. His family members were kept unaware of his condition.
