Nepal s opposition-alliance moves court demanding reinstatement of Lower House, appointment of Deuba as PM ANI | Updated: May 24, 2021 21:59 IST Kathmandu [Nepal], May 24 (ANI):Nepal s opposition alliance on Monday moved to the Supreme Court, demanding that the Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba be declared as a new prime minister and reinstatement of the House of Representatives (HoR). A total of 146 former members of the HoR reached out to Supreme Court with writ petition. Following the Constitution and its clause, Sher Bahadur Deuba should be appointed as Prime Minister on the basis of majority of immediate house, we have sought immediate order from the Supreme Court. We have expected court would give the order soon. The unconstitutional move of dissolving house which has been undertaken by Prime Minister and President to be reinstated. 2021-05-24 14:35:53 GMT2021-05-24 22:35:53(Beijing Time) Xinhua English KATHMANDU, May 24 (Xinhua) An alliance of Nepali opposition parties filed a writ petition with the Supreme Court on Monday, demanding a reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives. The opposition alliance with the signature of 146 lawmakers has filed the writ petition against the decision to dissolve the house, Kishor Poudel, a communication expert at the Supreme Court, told Xinhua. They have also demanded the court s order to appoint Deuba (Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba) as the prime minister. Those involved in the legal action include 61 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, 49 from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), 23 from the Madhav Nepal-Jalanath Khanal faction of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist and Leninist), 12 from the Upendra Yadav-Baburam Bhattarai faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party and one from Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal.

PTI | Kathmandu | Published 25.05.21, 02:53 AM Nepal’s Opposition alliance on Monday filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the “unconstitutional” dissolution of the House of Representatives by the President. Leaders of the alliance moved the apex court two days after President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the House on the recommendations of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who headed a minority government after losing a trust vote in the House. In the writ, petitioners have demanded that Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba should be, lawfully, appointed the Prime Minister of Nepal in accordance with Article 76 (5), The Himalayan Times reported.
