On 20 December, Pakistan’s Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal officially opened another border crossing point with Iran to facilitate trade and travel between the two historically-linked countries. The minister also inaugurated an immigration office at the new Gwadar-Ramdhan entry point, about 130 km from the strategic Chabahar port in Iran, being built by India. The crossing is suitably located for bilateral import and export of fruits, construction material, livestock and petroleum products.
The opening of this crossing was finalised during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Javad Zarifto Pakistan on 12 November. As per the agreement, more border crossing points will be opened in the near future. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the opening of another international border crossing-point underlines the strengthening bilateral ties and increasing economic activities.

The ongoing political crisis in Nepal seems to have provided China with a perfect opportunity to meddle in the internal affairs of this tiny Himalayan nation. India, however, prefers to stay out of Nepal’s domestic politics.
Earlier this month, Nepal’s President dissolved the parliament and announced fresh elections, following which Beijing rushed a high-level delegation to Kathmandu to “take stock” of the situation.
After a major internal crisis in the ruling Nepal Communist Party, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli recommended the dissolution of the Parliament, which was ratified the same day by President Bidya Devi Bhandari. However, former prime minister and party rival Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda opposed the move.

New Delhi, Dec 28 : In a visible sign of turbulence in their relationship, the visiting Chinese delegation led by Guo Yezhou, a vice minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was accorded a frosty reception at Kathmandu s Tribhuvan International airport on Sunday.
Only the Chinese ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi was at the airport to receive the visiting delegation that arrived by a regular Air China flight. No one from the Nepali side was present to welcome the Chinese guest at the Tribhuvan International Airport, The Kathmandu Post reported.

New Delhi, Dec 27: A high-level team of the Communist Party officials will travel to Kathmandu to stop the Nepal Communist Party from splitting. The move comes after Ambassador Hou Yanqi failed to stop the split in the NCP.
The team being sent by Chinese president, Xi Jinping is led by Guo Yechau, vice minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The team will land in Kathmandu today. The team will meet with key players in Nepal and will try to patch matters between the warring factions.
