- May 22, 2021 Any of the wonderful mezzos who appear on the NY Festival of Song’s “How About Those Mezzos!” gala could easily be called “a girl singer” as in “the females who used to sing with the Big Bands in the ‘40s” as well under their usual hats as opera singers. The proof: There wasn’t an aria to be heard on the program (which will be available on demand through the end of the month), co-hosted by NYFOS chief Steven Blier and mezzo Rebecca Jo Loeb, an up and comer to watch. (Blier also supplied the piano accompaniment on a half dozen entries.)
Future Looking Brighter for St. Cloud’s Clark Field [GALLERY]
ST. CLOUD Once a thriving sports facility bustling with people, St. Cloud’s Clark Field has sat empty since 2015, but that could all change soon.
The former home of the St. Cloud Technical High School football team was closed to varsity in 2012 due to mold and structural concerns. Junior varsity and youth sports continued to use the fields until the St. Cloud Area School District closed it up for good and announced their plans to demolish the site to make way for a new education center.
Community members rallied to save the field and won, with the district electing to build Quarryview Education Center in Waite Park instead.
Like many prior promises and positions, President Joe Biden’s pledge to pursue unity and bipartisanship once he was in charge gave way to political realities soon after he sat down in the Oval Office.
