If she had to compare the Montford Point Marines to someone, National Montford Point Marine Association (NMPMA) President Carmen Cole would liken them to Rosa Parks, who made history in 1955 refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus.
“Had she not done that, I would probably have never been afforded the opportunity to ride in the front of the many public transportation buses that I had to take to school and to work,” said Cole, a retired chief warrant officer 3.
The Montford Point Marines enlisted and fulfilled draft duties to endure social, physical and mental hardships that helped pave the way for future Black Marines and the desegregation of the military.

IN THE SUMMER OF 2016, a handful of senior Anti-Defamation League (ADL) staff members and executives in New York and Washington, DC joined a conference call to discuss a sensitive topic: the organization’s position on what would come to be known as the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act. The bill would amend federal civil rights law to employ a controversial definition of antisemitism, which included “delegitimiz[ing]” Israel, blaming Israel for “all . . . political tensions,” and, in the case of international organizations, “focusing on Israel only for peace or human rights investigations.” Those guilty of antisemitism under this definition could be investigated by the Department of Education for violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

During President Biden s campaign, lid announcements, meaning he would not be seen the rest of those days, were the source of mirth.
And for a commander in chief who has declared war on the coronavirus pandemic, the president s weekend schedules so far have failed to adopt that war-like footing.
Biden took his first Air Force One flight as president on Friday, jetting home to Wilmington, Delaware, where he and first lady Jill Biden are expected to stay through Sunday. The trip comes after the White House had a quiet two days last weekend, at least in the public eye.

Mama s Place: Vaccinations
Louise Finney
I got my first COVID-19 vaccination last week. I do not like shots and have generally avoided them, luckily staying healthy while skipping flu shots, pneumonia shots and shingles shots. However, now that I am the age of perhaps having “underlying health conditions that might raise the risk of complications of COVID-19,” I heeded the voice of reason, wore my mask, socially distanced and anxiously awaited this miraculous vaccine. I even had a flu shot for the first time since I was 23 years old while teaching at Ramsey Junior High, where the school nurse lined up the faculty and streamlined a mass flu vaccination clinic. I came down with what I diagnosed as the flu and didn’t have another flu shot until the one on Oct. 1, 2020.
