NIN: Why FG wants your phone number/SIM blocked [Explainer] [ARTICLE]

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, the President Buhari-led federal government, through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), announced that mobile phone subscribers who are yet to link their phone numbers or SIMS to their National Identification Numbers (NIN) would have their lines blocked. Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, who is the Director, Public Affairs of the NCC, the commission said: Telcos or network providers are required to get all their subscribers to provide valid NIN in order to update SIM registration records. The submission of NIN by subscribers will take place within two weeks (from December 16 to December 30, 2020). After the deadline, all SIMs without NINs will be blocked from the networks.

Daily Trust - Buhari doing well despite security challenges – Sheikh Jingi

“We have serious security challenges in the country but I believe that the current situation is still better than the previous ones when people were afraid of mingling with one another in any gathering. I am not saying everything is fine, but there is an improvement in the security situation,” he said. Sheikh Jingir, however, called on the president to re-strategise and fight criminality wholeheartedly. Meanwhile a political group, Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation (BOCO), has called on Nigerians to continue to support President Buhari-led government, insisting that the Federal Government was doing its best to tackle the numerous challenges facing the country.
