KABUL Afghanistan s President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said Thursday that there is no military solution to the lingering crisis in his country, calling upon the Taliban leadership to give up fighting and support the peace process to find a political settlement. The people of Afghanistan want peace, we all want peace. Let s tolerate each other, let s stop fighting and bombing, let s us join our hands and heal our soil s wounds and jointly rebuild our homeland, the president said in his speech to the nation after offering Eid al-Fitr prayer here in the Presidential Palace. KABUL, May 13 (Xinhua) The war-weary Afghans are on Thursday celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the second largest annual religious festival which marks the end of the Muslim fasting month Ramadan amid hope for the return of lasting peace in their war-torn country as the Taliban group declared a three-day cease-fire for the holiday. I am hopeful for embracing peace and also calling upon the Taliban militants to change the three-day truce into a permanent cease-fire so as to enable Afghans to have permanent peace, said Bibi Karima, mother of an injured soldier.

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a statement on Monday instructed all Afghan forces to observe the ceasefire during three days of Eid, but he reiterated that the Taliban’s violence has no legitimacy as international troops are leaving the country.
President Ghani stated that the government is aware of the announcement of the ceasefire by the Taliban, but he did not welcome it or otherwise acknowledge the gesture in his remarks. The president said the Afghan government and the Afghan people’s demand is a permanent and real ceasefire.

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Monday termed regional countries particularly Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process and its influence on the Taliban is crucial.
The president said this during a meeting with Pakistani Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa who called on him at Presidential Palace, according to a tweet from presidency.
Chief of the Defence Staff UK General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter also accompanied Gen. Bajwa during the visit and in the meeting.
President Ghani noted that both Afghanistan and Pakistan have no other option but to engage in mutual respect and cordial economic cooperation.
