Distinguished citizens have brought baseless allegations against the Election Commission, said Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury yesterday.
The allegations of corruption and other misconduct against the EC might be ill motivated, said Shahadat while talking to reporters at his office.
Forty-two eminent citizens on December 14 urged the president to constitute a supreme judicial council to probe allegations of corruption and other misconduct by the EC.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury has said the allegations of corruption and other misconducts brought against the Election Commission by 42 distinguished citizens are baseless. I don t think there is any ground for the allegations… As a member of a constitutional institution, I don t want to consider these as a challenge, the election commissioner said while talking to journalists at his office today.

Forty-two distinguished citizens have urged the president to constitute Supreme Judicial Council to investigate allegations of corruption and other misconduct against the Election Commission.
In a letter to President Md Abdul Hamid on December 14, they said the SJC should be formed under article 96 of the constitution.
The SJC comprises the chief justice and two other senior-most judges of the Appellate Division to probe the allegations against SC judges, the Election Commission and other constitutional bodies, and recommend removal of individuals involved in the allegations.

A group of 42 distinguished citizens have urged the President to constitute the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to investigate the allegations of financial irregularities, corruption and gross election-related misconduct against the present Election Commission under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
They made the request collectively through submitting a letter to President Md Abdul Hamid on December 14 to constitute the SJC under Article 96 of the constitution.
The SJC is constituted comprising the chief justice and two other senior-most judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in order to probe allegations against SC judges and other constitutional post holders and to recommend his or her removal for misconduct or incapacity.
