234 OFWs return home from Middle East on New Year s Day – Manila Bulletin

A total of 264 repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the Kingdom of Bahrain and United Arab Emirates are now back home as they arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on January 1, 2020. Joining the repatriated OFWs in the chartered flight was the 14-man Philippine delegation led by Special Envoy and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol (PAFA) Robert E.A. Borje and Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Arriola. Due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic crisis, the Philippine government has taken intensified efforts such as the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) and repatriation programs to ensure the welfare of the OFWs. Those awaiting repatriation were either affected by lockdowns or whose work contracts have expired amid unavailable commercial flights.
