Cockenzie 360 Centre gets community support | East Lothian Courier

SUPPORTING a council masterplan for the future of the former Cockenzie Power Station has becoming like “flogging a dead horse”, it was claimed this week. Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Council has backed East Lothian Council’s ‘visionary’ plan for the site since it was published nearly four years ago. The Cockenzie Masterplan was drawn up following public consultation at a cost of £150,000 but the local authority refused calls from the community council to adopt it, instead insisting it was a ‘visionary document’. Four years on, the site, which is owned by the council, remains undeveloped, with the only approved plans for the land a controversial substation, branded a “giant shed”, which will allow Inch Cape Offshore Limited to bring power from an offshore windfarm onto the land to feed into the National Grid.

Longniddry & District Rotary Club gives out special awards to local heroes

LONGNIDDRY & District Rotary Club has presented special awards to five local groups in recognition of their “outstanding efforts” supporting communities during the coronavirus lockdown. The club’s president Tom Shearer, assisted by president-elect Charles Simpson, presented the Rotary Service Recognition Awards to groups in the Preston Seton Gosford ward. Mr Shearer said: “This is the first time the club has presented such recognition awards and I can’t think of any better-deserving initiatives to be recognised by the club. “All the recipients of the award, representing the many individuals who gave of their time in supporting people in need throughout the pandemic, are owed such gratitude for all their efforts and it is right that this is recognised and celebrated.”
