COVID-19 case found at Fort Qu Appelle Elementary School | 620 CKRM The Source | Country Music, News, Sports in Sask

By News Room Jan 27, 2021 1:41 PM The Prairie Valley School Division says a person associated with the Fort Qu’Appelle Elementary School has been diagnosed with COVID-19. One classroom is transitioning to online learning until February 8th. Those considered close contacts have been contacted and instructed to isolate for 14 days. Fort Qu’Appelle Elementary School will remain open, and all other classes will continue.  

Blizzard conditions cause closures, power outages throughout southern Sask

  REGINA Extreme wind and snow wreaked havoc throughout southern Saskatchewan overnight, resulting in several closures and power outages on Thursday. An Alberta clipper moved across the province on Wednesday night, creating blizzard conditions with winds in excess of 100 kilometres per hour, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). As of 4 a.m., Bratts Lake saw the highest wind gusts, reaching 143 kilometres per hour, based on preliminary ECCC data. Regina set a January wind speed record, reaching peak gusts of 126 kilometres per hour. ECCC said blizzard conditions are persisting throughout southeastern Saskatchewan, but are expected to slowly improve throughout the day.

Out towards Bratt’s Lake, just south of Regina, they received the strongest wind gusts of 143 kilometres per hour. The Regina university reported a wind gust of 126 (km/h) and at the airport in Regina (there were) wind gusts of 115 (km/h),” Environment Canada meteorologist Mike Russo explained.

Drivers stranded, property damaged as blizzard rampages across Sask

Posted: Jan 14, 2021 7:16 AM CT | Last Updated: January 14 Heavy winds bent large highway signs over in Regina Thursday morning.(Mickey Djuric/CBC) An intense windstorm left drivers across the province stranded as high winds and blowing snow made travel nearly impossible. On Thursday morning, many highways across Saskatchewan were closed due to unsafe conditions. Notable closures include most of the Trans-Canada Highway from Moose Jaw through Regina to Whitewood, as well as Highway 11 from Regina to Davidson. By noon, most highways had been reopened, although travel was not recommended on several roads around Regina and Saskatoon. As of 6 a.m., Environment Canada said a blizzard warning was in place for Fort Qu Appelle, Moosomin, Yorkton and Estevan. Strong winds of more than 90 km/h hammered the province, creating near-zero visibility on the road.
