Enugu govt promises to strengthen rural healthcare system On Kindly Share This Story: The Enugu State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the rural healthcare system so the citizenry can enjoy optimal health needed to combat poverty. The Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, said this at the launch of the distribution of health commodities to Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) through the Saving One Million Lives (SOML) initiative. The items included Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets, HIV/AIDS test kits, baby delivery aprons, liquid soap, face masks and buckets with taps for handwashing, amongst others. Ezeilo said that each of the 34 selected PHC centres in each of the 17 Local Government Áreas would get at least two items.

Special arrangements for accommodation of nurses, doctors Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Arrangements have been made for food and accommodation of staff nurses and doctors at the Tiruchi Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital as per the guidelines issued by the Health Secretary and the Commissioner of Food Safety. Local hotels have been roped in to facilitate these services. R. Ramesh Babu, Designated Officer, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Tiruchi, said that the Tiruchi District Hotels Association was contacted and arrangements were made to prepare food for healthcare workers so that 330 people were being fed at the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, 150 at the Tiruchi Government Hospital. People were being provided with food at hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres in rural parts.

By Kuni Tyessi In stemming the tide of malnutrition and its devastating consequences especially in northern Nigeria, 10 local governments in Zamfara State have benefitted from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF). The programme in collaboration with USAID through Food for Peace (FFP) project is being run in Anka, Birnin Magaji, Bungudu, Gumi, Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Maru, Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Governments. UNICEF Senior LGA Facilitator for nutrition in Zamfara State, Mr. Micheal Ediemeh said the intervention which is for children between the ages of 0- 59 months has been effective with no recorded case of relapse.
