GPs in Bristol and South Gloucestershire begin roll-out of Covid-19 vaccine

Vaccination centres run by GPs will open in Bristol and South Gloucestershire this week, as the roll-out of the biggest immunisation programme in NHS history gains momentum. GPs and other primary care staff have been working round the clock to ensure those most at risk are able to receive the vaccine first, with staff at two sites starting to vaccinate in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. A phased roll-out will continue into the New Year. GP practices have been working together in groups called ‘Primary Care Networks’ to provide the vaccine across the area. People aged 80 and over, as well as care home workers, will be the first to be invited to get the jab – with residents urged to wait their turn to be called.

Elderly Herne Bay patients become town s first to receive coronavirus vaccines

Elderly Herne Bay patients become town s first to receive coronavirus vaccines  |  Updated: 14:12, 30 December 2020 Elderly patients lined the entrance to a hospital today as they became the first people in a Covid-hit Kent town to receive coronavirus vaccines. The injections are being given to almost 1,000 over-80s at the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital in Herne Bay. The town currently has one of the highest infection rates in the country, and accounts for more than 40% of all new cases across the Canterbury district. So the vaccination programme, which offers recipients 95% protection, cannot come soon enough. Beltinge resident Winifred Prett, who was the first in the town to be jabbed this morning, is looking forward to going shopping once she receives the second dose of the vaccine in three weeks’ time.
