CARICOM Heads addressing key development issues

Social Share CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) Heads of Government have the COVID-19 pandemic and the region’s response high on the agenda of their 42nd regular meeting which wraps up today, July 6. The impact of recent natural disasters, including the eruption of La Soufriere volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the widespread flooding in Guyana and Suriname are also being examined at the two day meeting, a release from the CARICOM Secretariat states. The Heads were also being updated on the passage of hurricane Elsa through several Member States. (CARICOM), Press Release (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana - Tuesday, 6 July 2021)  -  As the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) continues to confront challenges on several fronts, Chairman, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, is lauding the establishment of several institutions which are at the forefront of the Region s responses.   In an address to the opening of the Forty-Second Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM on Monday 5 July, the Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister spoke of the convergence of economic, social, environmental, financial and health “storms” which the Community faced.  The challenge, he said, threatened the very survival of the Region and underscored its vulnerability.
