Rowley: Opposition irresponsible , not taking COVID-19 seriously

The Opposition has failed to take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously. The accusation came from Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley as he spoke on the NOW Morning Show today to address Government’s management of the health crisis. While Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar most recently called for unity among all stakeholders in the fight against COVID-19, Dr Rowley said the party has been the source of “a lot of misinformation”. Repeating the stance of Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh that the party’s rhetoric undermines the Government’s vaccination plan, the Prime Minister said this creates a “far more difficult” task for Government in that regard.

Caricom leaders to choose new secretary-general

Article by Social Share Port of Spain – Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders will meet on Tuesday to “advance the process for the selection” of a new secretary general to replace the Dominican-born diplomat, Irwin LaRocque, who has been in the post since August 2011. A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here said that the virtual 21st Special Meeting of the regional leaders will be chaired by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, the chairman of the 15-member grouping. The statement said the purpose of the meeting “is to advance the process for selection of a new Secretary-General”, but gave no further details. Last week, the CARICOM Council of Ministers met to discuss the replacement for LaRocque and Trinidad and Tobago’s Foreign Minister, Dr Amery Browne is expected to present the report of the Council.
