The scheme aims to provide working capital loans up to Rs 10,000 at a subsidized rate of interest. The interest subsidy on timely or early repayment of the loan is at 7 per cent and street vendors will be allowed to repay the loan in monthly instalments in one year.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for street vendors as they were among the hardest hit by the lockdown, the PMSVANidhi scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs entitles them to Rs 10,000 interest-free loan as working capital to restart their businesses. Government data show that around 46 per cent of the street vendors who have applied for the loan so far are fruit and vegetable sellers, while some 21 per cent sell fast food. Over 41 per cent are women. Encouraged by the response to PMSVANidhi, the government has also launched its first-ever official socio-economic survey of vendors, to bring them under schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Jan-Dhan Yojana, Building and Other Construction Workers Act, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana, and others.

Loan Applications for 8,000 street vendors approved by North MCD

December 24, 2020 Share Loan applications of loans of Rs10,000 to around 8,000 street vendors under the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Yojna have been sanctioned by The North Delhi Municipal Corporation. The civic body has proposed to provide small non-guarantee loans to nearly 15,000 street vendors to help them build their livelihood. A special camp was set-up at Dussehra ground in Mukherjee Nagar to facilitate applicants for the loan process. North corporation mayor Jai Prakash visited the SVANidhi Yojna camp to check the enrolment process. Around 11,267 applications for the loan has been received and out of which 8,819 have been approved, while 631 are pending. The remaining 1,817 applications have been rejected on the basis of various grounds.

They can also pay the premium on life and general insurance policies and remit equated monthly instalments. They can also fill online applications for loans through these post offices. After running these services on an experimental basis for three months, the postal department has started to provide these services in over 10,000 post offices all over the country including the state where it has opened Janseva Centres. The department has entered into an agreement with the general services centre and installed a special service vehicle of the information technology and electronics ministry in its branches.
