Thousands of Cheshire children receive laptops and tablets

MORE than 3,500 laptops and tablets have been made available for disadvantaged children through Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester authorities since September, figures show. But school leaders union National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) says the Government s rollout of devices was still not finished, claiming children had been miserably let down by the scheme. That was more than treble the 551 reported on January 12. In Cheshire West, 3,031 laptops and tablets had been sent to the council or its maintained schools as of January 17, more than double the 1,223 reported on January 12.

Biden administration defends removing Churchill statue from Oval Office

Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-NY, weighs in on President Biden’s coronavirus response strategy on ‘America’s News HQ.’ The Biden administration on Friday defended the decision to remove a bust of former U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill from the Oval Office creating a bright video designed to remind people what the Special Relationship is truly about. We’ve seen some discussion about the Churchill Bust, so we just wanted to remind everyone what the Special Relationship is truly about, a tweet from the U.S. Embassy to the U.K. said. The video contrasts pictures of the bust, which it describes as just a bust of Winston Churchill with pictures of former presidents meeting with former prime ministers and highlights of the U.S. U.K. relationship.

Boris Avoids Criticising Biden for Churchill Bust Removal

22 Jan 2021 Prime Minister Boris Johnson would not criticise President Joe Biden for removing the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office a symbol of strong Anglo-American relations despite having done so when former President Barack Obama made the same gesture years before. Mr Biden removed the bust of the wartime British leader, whose mother was American, from his White House office on Wednesday, replacing it with several other figures including those of Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez, and Eleanor Roosevelt. Former President Donald Trump, an Anglophile, had famously returned the bust of Churchill to the Oval Office at his 2017 inauguration after it had been removed by his predecessor Barack Obama. So proud was Mr Trump of its return, that he posed with it alongside Britain’s then-Prime Minister Theresa May on her visit to Washington, DC.
