China s Defence Minister Gen. Wei Fenghe arrived here on a two-day visit for bilateral talks with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka looks forward to China’s support in rebuilding investor confidence in Sri Lanka since one of country’s main priorities in post-pandemic economic recovery is to attract investments from around the world, said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa during the bilateral discussion with State Councilor and Chinese National Defense Minister General Wei Fenghe yesterday.
The Prime Minister said that despite the increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, the Government decided not to pursue countrywide lockdowns due to the impact such lockdowns have on the economy and society.

Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe on Wednesday called on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and discussed ways to further cement bilateral ties, including defence cooperation and post-pandemic economic recovery.
The Chinese defence minister arrived here along with a high-level delegation on Tuesday on a two-day official visit after he made a brief trip to Bangladesh.

COLOMBO, April 28 (Xinhua) Sri Lanka and China vowed here Wednesday to enhance pragmatic cooperation in all sectors between the two countries including the military. The pledge came after Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe. During the meeting, the Sri Lankan president, who is also the defense minister, thanked China for providing long-term and precious support to Sri Lanka and hoped to learn the governing experience from the Communist Party of China on poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, among others.
