President Biden s first in-person engagement with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is underway now in southwest England. They are expected to commit to working to open up travel between the US and the UK and lifting restrictions that were put in place to stop the spread of Covid-19, according to a source familiar with the matter.
President Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson are set to meet on Thursday for the first time since Biden took office in an effort to strengthen the "special relationship" between the U.S. and Great Britain, officials said.
Biden hopes to use his first overseas trip as president to reassure European allies that the United States had shed the transactional tendencies of Donald Trump s term and is a reliable partner again. But tensions may simmer beneath the surface of Biden s meeting with Johnson.
