PHILIPSBURG: - Fifteen police officers from the Class of 2015 attended their graduation ceremony on May 7, 2021. The graduation was held in front of the Police Headquarters in Philipsburg. In attendance were His Excellency, Governor Drs. Eugene Holiday, Prime Minister Silveria E. Jacobs, the Minister of Justice Anna E. Richardson, Vice-Chair of Parliament MP Grisha Heyliger-Marten, and Chief Prosecutor Mirjam Mol amongst other government officials, department heads, family members, and friends of the graduates.
As customary, after receiving their diplomas, the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police have the honor of pinning the officers by switching their shoulder lapels. Mothers throughout time have raised their children, while maintaining the home, managing careers - working inside or outside the home - as well as being involved in community activities. Some mothers also carry the awesome responsibility of being the sole parent and breadwinner in the family. Even as our roles and responsibilities as mothers continue to evolve with time, the mainstay of motherhood – nurturing and supporting our children and their dreams with unconditional love and devotion – continues to be the most important responsibility in a mother’s life.

PHILIPSBURG: - Prime Minister Silveria E. Jacobs questions follow-through from the Netherlands on liquidity support and requests Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte s intervention to address unnecessary delays and have the loan agreement for the liquidity support sent to St. Maarten without any further delays.
St. Maarten has largely complied with all the conditions placed by the government of the Netherlands, and thus, the current delay is inexplicable.
In March 2021, the first delay of the fifth tranche of liquidity support was due to the questions of the Kingdom Council of Ministers (RMR) surrounding the support for this trajectory from the Parliament of St. Maarten. Clarification of the meaning of the petition that was submitted to the United Nations(UN) was requested. Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic, and Transportation (TEATT) Ludmila de Weever has decided to take up her seat in Parliament. “After careful consideration during this delicate time and after close consultation with the many who keep St. Maarten’s best interests at heart, I decided to accept the parliamentary seat in accordance with article 105, paragraph 2 of the Electoral Ordinance,” Minister De Weever stated.
On April 21st, the Central Voting Bureau (CVB) informed the Minister that she was elected to Parliament and had the option of choosing to take up her seat. Minister De Weever notified the United People’s (UP) party, the Prime Minister, as well as the CVB yesterday of her intention to move to Parliament and take up a productive and active role in the legislative branch of government.
