Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) on Thursday asked Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood to ensure a timely start of the Autumn Semester which starts from September.

The Autumn Semester 2021 should start on time, the Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) said in a letter to Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood on Thursday.
The letter comes after the government decided to hold exams and not promote students based on school or college assessed grades. Although the education minister has said that Matriculation and Intermediate exams, which are due to begin after June 15, will be given priority and be held first so that university admissions are not delayed, varsities are concerned the Autumn Semester will be pushed to a date later than usual.
HEC, University Heads agree on providing provisional admission to A2 students

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) after consultations with the COVID-19 Oversight Committee representing Vice Chancellor from each province and region, and Heads of a few Private Sector Universities have agreed to provide provisional admission to A2 students, whose exams have been postponed to October 2021, in the Fall 2021 semester so that they would not waste a session.
On the direction of the Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood to ensure that the students of A2, whose Cambridge exams were being postponed due to COVID do not lose a session, a virtual consultative meeting was held on Friday to address the reservations expressed by students and parents in wake of the government’s decision to put off examinations till June 15 due to surge in the third wave of COVID-19 in the Country.
Panelists demand declaring Education Emergency, spending 4% of GDP on education

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Speakers at a penal discuss stressed the need for declaring an Education Emergency and spending at least 4% of GDP on education in order to bring improvement in the long-neglected Education Sector.
The panel comprising concerned stakeholders including government officials from the Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training, Vice-Chancellors, Central President Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association.
They gave various recommendations in an online panel discussion on the topic of “Debating Pakistan Education Policy 2021”, which was successfully concluded on Thursday.
The recommendations were given so as they could be incorporated in the new Education Policy which is going to be announced on March 23, 2021.
