The threat of a prolonged Covid-19 outbreak, triggered by the Delta variant, has prompted people to scramble for alternative vaccines, including Moderna, that are not provided the state mass inoculation scheme.
A mix of different types of vaccines to boost immunity against variants has increasingly become part of the decision to receive jabs amid ongoing concern about a vaccine shortage.
Bumrungrad scheduling Moderna
Bumrungrad International Hospital (BH) plans to better immunise hospital personnel and patients against highly contagious variants of the Covid-19 virus by starting the booking process for Moderna vaccines today.
Target groups can make bookings via the hospital s website from today: the unvaccinated and those who received two doses of Sinovac. BH expects Moderna vaccines will be delivered between November 2021 and March 2022, said BH chief executive and pharmacist Artirat Charukitpipat.
BH declined to reveal how many doses of Moderna vaccine it had purchased through the Private Hospital Association, which imported the vaccines via the Government Pharmaceutical Organization.
The association placed an order to procure 9.5 million doses, but the manufacturer can sell only 5 million doses because of limited supply to serve huge global demand.

GPO submits draft to buy Moderna jab as criticism continues
THAILAND: The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) abruptly submitted a draft purchase contract for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to the Office of Attorney General (OAG) yesterday (July 2) after the latter publicly stated it never received the contract.

The move came as the government came under further fire over its failure to procure sufficient vaccines as the number of new cases continued to soar, with more than 6,000 cases and 61 fatalities confirmed yesterday.
The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said that the number of new cases is expected to rise further next week.

The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) abruptly submitted a draft purchase contract for the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to the Office of Attorney General (OAG) on Friday after the latter publicly stated it never received the contract.
In a statement, the OAG dismissed media reports saying the draft procurement contract for the Moderna vaccine was still under review by the office.
The statement came after GPO director Vitoon Danwiboon s June 23 comments saying the GPO would soon submit the draft to the OAG.
I got a text this morning from Memorial to call and register for Moderna in October. Called and they want me to go there and pay ฿2,000 now to get on the list. I explained as patiently as I could that I m happy to pay when they actually have vaccine on the shelves, but not when they not only don t
have any, but don t really know when they ll
get any. That was as far as I got.
When I think I m starting to understand Thai s, they throw one of these at me.
