APHM to facilitate sharing of resources in treating Covid-19 patients, accelerating vaccination

Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) will facilitate sharing of resources, namely human resource and movable infrastructure such as medical equipment or devices if required for treating Covid-19 patients and to enhance the vaccination rate at mega vaccination centres in the next few weeks. APHM president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh in a statement today said chief operating officers of private hospitals in Klang Valley will be in direct discussion with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to have the maximum support rendered to the patients in the country. “As of today, almost 100 per cent of the designated Covid-19 ICU beds in private hospitals are taken up by Covid-19 Category 5 patients.

Photo: Bernama PETALING JAYA: Since the number of Covid-19 infections remains high, mass vaccination is the only way towards a speedier recovery for the nation, say health experts. Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh said the country’s current vaccination rate was commendable. “The government had earlier planned to vaccinate 400,000 people a day and it looks like we are getting closer to that target. “This is a good move and it shows that we should achieve herd immunity much earlier,” he said when contacted yesterday. He added that the current restrictions under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) and the standard operating procedures (SOPs) had not stemmed the number of daily cases and may have to be reviewed.

Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh said the move was based on the current Covid-19 situation at public hospitals particularly in the Klang Valley in terms of high bed occupancy and shortage of staff. “The Ministry of Health has requested the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia’s members to provide nursing, medical officers and specialists to work in the public hospitals. We shall, at a later stage, assist them with other medical personnel,” he said in a statement Monday.
