Jamaica achieves two of four anti-crime targets, says CMOC

Chairman of the Crime Monitoring and Oversight Committee (CMOC), Lloyd Distant Jr, has revealed that two of the four key deliverables within the National Crime Consensus Agreement has been substantially completed. Among them are the approval of regulations to make the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) an independent body, and the strengthening of the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). But the CMOC is concerned that the other two deliverables in relation to regulations for the appointment of board members and the formation of a task force on procurement, have not been achieved.

Yuhimbe Brydson The community of New Market Oval commonly called ‘Desta’ in Westmoreland, remains on edge today following the controversial shooting death of 14-year-old Yuhimbe Brydson minutes into the New Year by members of a joint police military team.  Brydson’s 15-year-old cousin was also shot and wounded in the early Friday morning incident. Brydson is a Grade Nine student of the Petersfield High School and is of a Ricketts Street address in the parish.  The Savanna-la-Mar police report that minutes after midnight several explosions sounding like gunshots were heard in the Desta area and a team of police and soldiers responded.

The police say the matter has been reported to the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau and the Independent Commission of Investigations - File photo. The police are reporting that a man was fatally shot during a confrontation with cops on Morgan’s Drive in Manchester on Sunday. The incident happened about 6:15 p.m. The deceased has been identified by the police as 26-year-old Fitzroy Coore, otherwise called ‘OJ’, of Alexander Drive, Farm district, Clarendon. Coore was listed by the police as one of Clarendon’s most wanted. The police say a Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing seventeen 9mm rounds of ammunition was seized during the incident.
