VPD reassigns police officers caught on video taking photos with dead body

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has reassigned two officers who were captured on video taking photos next to a dead body last week. After the incident occurred on February 25, footage of the officers was shared by Instagram user @zac.news. The video appears to show a VPD officer posing near a cadaver at Third Beach as a second officer takes a photo. The person behind the camera asks the officers, “Is that a deceased person?” To which one responds, “Ya.”     Simi Heer, Director of Public Affairs for the VPD, tells Daily Hive that the two officers were reassigned on Monday morning to “non-deployable, administrative positions while the OPCC investigation is ongoing.”

Michael Mazzeo, president of the Rochester Police Locust Club, said Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, that the officers involved in the incident that led to Daniel Prude s death conducted themselves consistent with their training. For its March issue, CITY published an expansive story detailing the history of the Rochester Police Locust Club, the union which represents the 701 sworn officers of the Rochester Police Department. LPD relocates headquarters

The Lawrence Police Department unveiled the new police headquarters located in West Lawrence in December of last year, vacating their previous headquarters and downsizing their Bob Billings Parkway location. The new headquarters, located at 5100 Overland Drive, is the result of the City Commission’s Capital Improvement Program, a five-year program that identifies community needs and funding to address those needs.  “What this [new building] has allowed us to do is consolidate our operations, and it allows us to put them all under the same building under the same roof, which is something that we haven t been able to say in years,” LPD spokesperson Patrick Compton said.
