Dozens of people came to the annual National Day of Prayer at Anna Becker Park in Belen last Thursday. Participants prayed for elected officials, first responders, the institution of marriage and family and several other groups and ideals. The day was established in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, and in 1988, President Ronald Reagan approved an amendment to the original joint resolution that set the annual observance to take place on the first Thursday in May.
